Adventures in D.C. Part 2

So now we're on Tuesday.  Something you should know about my sister is that she stays up really late and sleeps in really late.  She says that she just can't fall asleep and that's why she stays on twitter, but I think it might be the other way around.  Anyway, on Tuesday, she wouldn't wake up, so my mom and I just went without her.  We were not about to miss out another day!

So we went down to Georgetown, which is where Georgetown University is, of course.  It's a really cute area of DC that has LOTS of brick building, which I absolutely LOVE.  And there are a bunch of shops there.  My mom bought some Toms...can't believe she got a pair before me!  I tried them on for the first time ever....wow!  So comfy.

Anyway, I did get a picture of this bank.

Then Mom and I went to eat.  We were both craving clam chowder, so we found a seafood restaurant.  Everything was really good, especially this lobster crab dip.  I mean YUMMY.  This picture is our view from our table.  All the trees are Theodore Roosevelt Island, and those buildings are not on the island.

This is another view from our table.  They were having a photoshoot the whole time we were there.  I love that dress.

Then we went to the Bureau of Engraving for a tour to see how money is made.  We couldn't take pictures there, but it was pretty cool.

We went back to the hotel to pick up Genna and go eat and karaoke at The Public House.

The next day, we all slept in a little because we were out karaokeing so late the night before.  But we finally got up and went to the Smithsonian National Gallery of Art and Portraiture.

So we hopped on the Metro...

...and went to Chinatown...

...then walked to the Smithsonian.

There were three paintings I loved, but they wouldn't let me take pictures.  I wrote the names down, but now they have disappeared.  Luckily, I've found two of them.

This is called Michael 67 (Pastor Shelby) by Neil Shigley.

And this was probably my favorite of everything there and definitely one of my favorite paintings of all time.  It's called Life Raft, and it's by Katie O'Hagan.  She said that she dreamed this image.  It's a self-portrait.  I just...really love it.

On the way back to the Metro, I took some pretty cool pictures of some buildings.

The are we stayed in, National Harbor, had a Peeps store!

This guy was coming out of the sand...

Then we went home and ate hamburgers.  Then, Genna and I ended up going out with two guys that we met at the Smithsonian.  On the way there, some guy snatched Genna's phone off her lap and ran off the Metro.  Pretty upsetting.  But we still went out and had a good time.

The next day, it was time for the White House, the Supreme Court, and some memorials.

Division 1 War Memorial & the Eisenhower Offices

The Washington Monument was under construction because the earthquake put a crack in it.  We saw lots of runners and bikers, which really made me want to live there so I could run and bike around the monuments.

The Supreme Court was also under construction in the front.

Then we went to view the memorials.  It was a really pretty area.

This is the WWII Memorial.

DC War Memorial

I was really excited to see the Korean War Memorial.  It was probably the most touching of all of the war memorials.  As one friend of mine put it, it really puts you right in the middle and gives you the feelings that they may have felt.  Even more special was that there were tons of Korean War Vets walking around in yellow shirts.  You could just see the emotion on their faces and how much it touched them.  It was one of my favorite parts of the whole trip.

The Lincoln Memorial...I mean, this guy is HUGE.

Then we went back to the hotel, met up with our new friends and some of their friends, and had a ton of fun for the rest of the night.  But we all woke up so late that we didn't get to do much the next day.  While everybody else relaxed and slept, I went to find the DC Temple.  It took me two hours to get there (bus and metro)!  I was planning on going inside and doing a session, but I stopped in the Visitor's Center and ended up talking to Sister Graff (who I should have gotten a picture with!) for about an hour.  I think it was what both of us needed.  We exchanged addresses, and I can't wait to hear from her!

This is the tallest temple in the world (288ft, which is about how high my bungy jump off of the Macau Tower was).  It's definitely on my top three favorite temples.

Then I went back home, and I can't even remember what we did the rest of the night!  Probably went out again.  Whatever it was, I'm sure it was FUN!

Stay tuned....
